Drive

I’d like to put you in the car
& drive
somewhere so far
& leave it all behind;
the aches,
worries,
the fear,
the sight
of my eyes in the cracked mirror,
the piles of junk
that’s accumulated,
that has manifested
& is somehow called life.
I’d like to leave the road
& go
where the earth ends
& meets the sea;
a crack
in time & space.
I’d like to leave reality
& ignoble humanity
deformed, ill & broken.
Heal my old bones,
then watch them erode &
diminish like
sand blown
in the brisk breeze.
I’d like it if you were with me.
You’re like my feet
at the end of the bloody stumps
of my warped legs;
I can’t walk without you
& I wouldn’t want to
