In my world
It’s a crown
On my head
Tailor-made
The perfect fit
And it doesn’t mess up my hair
Or sit heavily or awkwardly
It’s not about to slip or fall
It’s brand new
And it shines and sparkles
But it’s as comfortable as a well-washed t-shirt
Or shoes that have learnt my feet
And it makes me want to buy clothes to match
And though only one has seen it being put on
Somehow, others have noticed that I’ve worn it
Because the brightness in my face and cheeks
Only fades very slowly
And its voice proclaims:
Here she is
She’s been chosen
She’s been set apart
She is worthy
She is lovely
She is beautiful
She is irresistible
She deserves honour and respect
The crown is the evidence
And I’m not just a girl
I’m a princess
Heart swelling and glowing
(And leaping and dancing
and warming and melting
and floating and daring
and stuttering and skipping
and soaring and soothed
and swaying and silenced)
With my crown
I’m radiant
I want to wear it every day
