Tune: Thaxted
(\'I vow to thee my country\')
Lamentations 3 v.19-26, and v.31-32 {Old Testament}
*********
Exiled Judah, Jerusalem. remember most solemn
In Babylon they recall their troubles, name them all
Affliction and misery and bitterness too, see
My soul has them in memory and I humbled in me
This I recall to mind, so fresh hope now I do know
It is of the LORD\'s mercies that He does bring us ease
We are not all consumed, for His compassions they sure
To us, they fail not, are new each morning like the dew
And great is His faithfulness, though sins brought us distress
The LORD is my portion here my soul says, holds Him dear
I will hope in Him therefore, He be good, righteous, pure
His help to those do wait for Him, not trust to fate
And good they shall find Him who do seek Him here anew
It is good that people should hope in Him, faith firm stood
And quietly wait, each one, for the LORD\'s salvation
He will not cast off ever, nor us from Him sever
But though He cause grief, He will show His compassion still
According to multitude of His mercies endued
