Letters

Out of a box, a dusty old box

a treasure trove of letters found,

written long ago in a familiar hand

full of heartfelt emotion unbound.

They spoke of love and passion;

words from the depths of a heart

from a time so very long ago,

long before we had to part.

As if a coal had burst into flame

reading what you had to say

reminded me what I felt then

is the same as I feel today.

The passion that we once shared

we may never get to show,

my dear sweet darling friend

and a future we may never know.

And although we are far apart,

for me time has been kind

though given what might have been

my heart has stood the test of time.

To this day your words remain

to me a lasting treasure,

to this day your words bring

back memories of pleasure.

And though desire may wane

never lose sight of love\'s wealth

and never lose feeling passion

if not for me then for life itself.
