James Alexander

Haunted

nodding while reading

a lyrical line or two

from a poetry book

given to me by you

haunted by ghostly dreams

as I drift towards sleep

vague memories of you

arise slowly from the deep

recalling a star filled galaxy

found in your eyes so deep

you easily hypnotized

and bound my soul to keep

oh, how I loved the enduring

movements of your fluid grace

and every line of sorrow

time pressed into your face

a mind with unbridled wit

with passion no less true

than the freedom of spirit

i found there in you

now pondering to myself

alone and full of dread

time has passed me by

with caring words unsaid

now tired, old and alone

with a heart full of scars

i so foolishly rejected

a life among the stars
