These Distant Dreams

These distant dreams that come and go

They always pull me through

Those treasured highs hidden in the lows

Make it all worth while again and again

Because this world we are living in

Tries to pull us down

This world it tries to break us sometimes

But my dreams are stronger than the grief and pain

And hope always shines through the bitterness and shame

Who are we but a shadow of an echo of an unconscious memory of who we were

Waiting to break free, patiently, silently, gently

And all this, all of this is no more than the rusting chains of distraction binding us in uncertainty

And though my dreams they come and go they always return

And when they do,

Within those moments I am no longer falling but flying free
