Stress Fracture

The classroom clears out

As they all go for a walk

It\'s quite except for the water trickling in the fish tanks

I sit alone

My leg propped on a chair

Ice numbing the pain I\'ve managed to conceal so far today.

I push the crutches aside, wishing to throw them as hard as I could across the room

My boyfriend hugs me, tries to comfort me

But right now, there is no comfort in his grasp.

I want to go for a walk without needing some mechanism to aid me

For the snowflakes to fall softly on the ground and lay in my hair

As I wrap my scarf tighter around my neck

And hold his hand, enjoying his presence.

But, I can\'t do any of that

I have a stress fracture that isn\'t healing.
