Weeping Wall
Weeping Wall - you could have been tall
a majestic source of Nature.
But for this Weeping Wall, it was their call
to build a malignant source of terror.
Weeping Wall - the tears of millions
sadly cascaded down your face.
Oh Weeping Wall - hundreds would fall
and die, martyred in that place.
In the winter they ran and tried not to slip
racing towards your icy concrete face
but instead of climbing they lost their grip
and their bodies lay frozen in that “death Strip.”
Oh yes, visitors came and left words
such as “Eich bin ein Berliner!”
or “Mr. Gorbachev tear down this wall!\"
But to no avail.
Yet every wall is born with two sins
to keep people out and to keep people in.
When a wall is used in the evil futility
of blocking another’s freedom or liberty
it is destined to fail
and the power of the human spirit did prevail.
Thus, that Weeping Wall did fall
to the hammer and the pick.
