January
Gray skies filled with snow fall on frozen ground.
Howling wind screaming through the trees is the frozen sound.
My bones are wrapped in ice that keeps the body bound.
I see the sun but the warm rays are nowhere to be found.
This is January.
After the loudness of past months and holidays
January grows silent, cold, and most unforgiving.
January forces reflection.
Leaving us to question
“ Could this year be different? Can I change? Will I, even if I could?”
January.
Where we can make fresh starts under the beautiful blankets of white snow.
We look into our future on frozen lakes and rivers.
Her animals tucked away sleeping until the warm sun shows again.
This is January.
The month where my pockets are a little lighter
My mind completely tired
But what I do this month really sets the tone for the end of the year.
January afternoons
Grey skies turn blue
The sun is high now and bounces off the freshly fallen snow
This is the perfect time take a quick winter walk
Come home and make a comfort lunch.
Draw your curtains to let your eyes adjust
Pack and smoke a bowl
Rest now.
Awaken to January evenings.
The sun is beginning to lower in the sky.
The sunsets are painted cool grays and yellows with just a touch of orange.
These winter sunsets are pleasing to the eye.
Summer sunsets seem to pale in comparison when you watch it go
down over snow covered land.
January nights come swiftly
Cold and dark.
The night wind screams a little
The street light catching little falling snow
Bedtime comes early
Warm pajamas required
Good night and sweet dreams we must acquire.
