To Ignorance

Thoughts inside I dare not share

Thoughts spoken only to the air

I warn the wind and rain and snow

Of things I think they ought to know.

Beware of us who walk this earth

Within our souls there lies a dearth

Of what we once called decency

Of love, compassion, honesty

Our morals stolen by a thief

Upon the grave we lay the wreath

Where lies the ruins of integrity

The sad remains of democracy

We scream to the sky, fists clenched in rage

Our immeasurable grief cannot be assuaged

For we’ve created the grief and strife

The architects of this untenable life

We yell at what we cannot grasp

The irretrievable past we tightly clasp

We question not, it hurts our brains

So blissful ignorance remains

For it’s painful to think, to become engaged

And with lack of thought we become enraged

With those who would have us know the truth

So “speak” we say, show us your proof

How dare you challenge what we believe?

We know it all, we’re not naïve

There’s nothing you can say or do

To make what we believe untrue

So spew your facts, we do not care

They float like dust upon the air

For in our numbers we are safe

We have each other, we have faith

In those who tell us what we should hear

They justify what we hold dear

Our prejudice we wear with pride

And political correctness we cannot abide

Why waste the time to learn and grow

We already have what we want to know

As long as things are good for us

What do we care what’s all the fuss

If some don’t like it let them leave

This space is ours they are the thieves

We’re pure and righteous we hold the key

And no one else has that guarantee

We bow and scrape to those on high

Who hold us captive with the cry

“Those others hate us, it’s not fair”

And spread division with a glare

And those who seek to separate

Would have us build a stronger gate

To keep the learned, wise and true

From entering into the queue

This place is only meant for us

So off you go, get on the bus

You are not welcome, you’ll never be

Are you blind, can you not see?

We want you gone so we don’t hear

The truth you speak that we all fear

That change is good and here to stay

We’re comfortable with yesterday

And now you say that life’s not static

Like bygone days stored in the attic

We loved those days, as well you know

We’re not about to let them go

We’ll hold on tight till time goes back

And gives us what we sorely lack

The good old days that we could face

When everybody knew their place
