i’m a Californian sunspot
a little ant around all this wonder
this picnic and all these flowers
i’m all scatter brained
i see ants scuttling, scattering,
flipping and flapping
tearing and tapping
writhing and wrapping
themselves all around my floor
in my flat dirt patch
looking to be no more than desolate desert
i see myself, a little sunspot scouring nothing
for a view that’ll resonate, make me feel something
an ant on a picnic scrambling, scurrying
on plant earth i’m circling, journeying
a big picnic for an ant …relatively speaking
get your hands and all your crumbs but
an ant is pretty spoiled scrambling down highway one
i’m a Californian sunspot
mode of dust in a sunbeam
in a million points, one single dot
it aught so seem so much a dream
a Californian sunspot
without no self esteem
an ant on a picnic
living out an American dream
