I am running
My feet fall at lighting speed
My hair is pulled and pushed
By the wind as I go
My arms pumping thru time
And space
The air in my nose
And lungs
The taste of iron in my mouth
The feel of life in my throat
I taste the salt from my sweat that drips
Down my face
I see the world go by
The track, the stands,
The strangers faces in the
Crowds watching
I can see the faces of friends
And of rivals from other schools
I get the scent of
The cold spring air
It burns my nostrils as I
Catch my breath
I smell the sweat of
Other runners as I pass them
I hear the breathing of
Other runners
I hear my own hard breath
And my feet hitting the track
I hear the shout of friends from the sidelines
I have won the race
