Saxon Crow

The Caterpillar Slaughter

Along came a caterpillar

and then one more

and then for good measure two became four

An avian feast as far as the eye could see

Shouting in one voice

\"Please don\'t eat me!

If you let us live into butterflies

We\'ll grow\"

\"Not on your life!\" Said a murder of crows

So down they swooped and one by one

They began to eat on caterpillar chum!

The noise of slaughter attracted a worm

Deep in the ground each sound he heard

Out his head or tail did stick

\"What\'s that racket?\" He shouted

To a beak!

And quick as lightning he was gone

So juicy, sweet, fat and long

Into the belly of one fat crow

Who seemed to be struggling with taking off

And so it went like a parade of Dyson

Sucking up caterpillars the crows went on

And just when it seemed they had had their fill

And the remaining caterpillars would not be a meal

Along came a hungry badger clan

\"We\'ll finish em off\" for they had a plan.

Oh poor little caterpillars

They never stood a chance

To grow into butterflies

And learn to flutter and dance

But they got their revenge

In a way or two

For the crows couldn\'t fly

From eating so much food

And as for the Badgers

They deserved all they got

Because too much greedy eating

Gave them the trots.

And so mother nature

Shows she has her ways

To keep things in balance

Both night and day

You can never have more

Than you deserve

For too many caterpillars

Can make you sore

And it\'s never right to have

More than you need

Just ask crow and badger

About their greed!
