I attempted to mend the broken bridge.
with wooden planks that would fill the gap
between you and me.
over the ocean and into the forest of dreams...
only looking up to witness with watery eyes
you taking a sledge hammer to the other side
piece by broken piece I let go.
let go of you and let go of the broken bridge.
watching with wide eyes as you pour the gas to start the fire.
setting it alight and watching it burn...
billowing with the black smoke of our broken dreams
climbing up to smother the moon
ablaze with the old wildfire of our fractured fantasies.
I sit amongst the pillows of memories
alone on the mother of mountains
