Gall Bladder

( Medical Poetry continued)

Gall bladder

I am a bladder with a gall( bile)

A little unknown, insignificant hollow organ

Always bullied by my elder brother the Liver

I live under his shade all my life

He is mighty and commanding and aristocratic

I am weak and small and miserable

The liver receives all the applause

And I live unnoticed in a corner of his house

He screams at me, I shy away

He throws at me some bile, I happy store it

I save, I concentrate, I enlarge

When the time is right, I give all that I have to the intestines

My life is a life of yogi, to live for others

All my life, I rhythmically contract to deliver

The bile to the intestines to digest the fats,

To live a life of peaceful meditation.

But take not me for granted,

Liver may be large, but I have the ‘gal’

I can explode into boldness and bitterness in a matter of minutes,

I appear meek, but I am mighty brave

I have lots of patience, but lots of stones too,

My one stone can block a passage ,

And even Alexander the Great will scream in pain.

I am a recluse, staying away from pomp and show

To spend my life in service and meditation

Do not angry me, do not disturb my peace

If I get red and angry and cry out,

You will walk through the portals of hell, on red hot charcoals.

I am the gall bladder, I am the gallbladder

I appear meek and weak

But I am the gall of the mighty

I am the gall of the brave.
