My Heart’s on Fire
When I saw her for the first time
I thought she was beautiful.
She was only fifty feet away from me
yet she seemed tall
and I could hear every word
of their conversations.
My world was one
of black and white
of right and wrong
of happy endings.
Hers it seemed
was cold and lonesome
and always ended in misery.
It drove her to madness
and she tried to flee
but they caught her
and put her in an asylum.
I watched them do it
but what could I do?
I had convinced myself
there was nothing at all.
I didn’t see her for the longest time
and when I did, she had grown a bit.
I heard her say that her boyfriend
was a gang member
and there had been a murder.
I figured it was not a good time.
I left and went home.
The next time I saw her was in Macy’s
She was working there
but she was chatting with a stranger.
When they left together
I went home alone.
The last time I saw her
she had gotten a movie contract
and had gotten married
but that didn’t last long.
Her Mom was living by the beach
but her house caught fire and exploded.
No one knows where Daisy is.
I think if I try Netflix or maybe Hulu.
I’ll be able to find her.
