Pretending

\"You really loved her?\" they ask you softly.  And how could you say anything other than yes? You had never known a love as pure as mine for you, had never felt the way you do for me.

\"Who wouldn\'t?\"

It wasn\'t a question. Or maybe it was, but you already knew the answer.  No-one.

\"And she loved you?\"

\"More than I knew humanely possible.\"

\"Then why did she leave?\"

The question hit like a gunshot.  Its bullet pierced the walls of the room in your heart built just for me.  Walls incapable of climbing, walls previously though indestructible.  Though I was no longer present, it was your intent to keep me for all of the future.

\"She left because she finally realized what I had warned her of all along.  I wasn\'t worth it.  I didn\'t give or treat her like she deserved, and the whole time I let her fight the world to be by my side. \"

\"So what happened?\"

\"She moved on with her life and I pretended to do the same.\"
