I used to see the blue silk up there
With a wondrous mind – like the one of a child.
I believed in perfection,
I believed that was actually possible.
Yet the sky differs now that I’m older.
There was once just a vastitude of blue,
And nothing more than that.
But I’ve learned that the world is a dangerous place...
One that requires attentive positioning of the foot,
To not accidentally step on broken glass,
Or fall down a rabbit hole.
I also learned that others only care about their needs.
I’m not cynical, but it’s a fact.
I close the curtains because of that.
I learned to lift up the visor of gullibility,
And see the undraped sky for what it really is.
I discovered that there are hidden storms beyond the naked eye.
Because once you step into the “real world,”
You’re instantly confronted with the reality that the only
Firm shoulders to lie on - are your own.
