Wind

You kept our time down to the second, each fleeting glance preserved as it happened.

I thought it imprudent, given so easy, but you treasured each as you held my hand.

Then you smiled sweet, stoic, serene, and for a few months we continued our trance.

Soft fleeting muse sure no one would know and then it cast out a dangerous show.

On that precipice we each placed a foot and when you leapt free I was first to let go.

Yet safe in my arms you knew you would show and what fool am I and how could I know?

So you smiled sweet, stoic, serene, and for a few months we continued our dance.

With promises wanted, half-given and broken; left far behind as you held my hand.

Soft brunette locks slipping like sand, lost in your eyes, and gone with the wind.
