Broken Promise

Do you not hear the bell, brother?

Is it he?

Are you expecting someone for dinner,

Magerie?

Oh, how can you not remember?

It\'s the 30 th of September!

A slight breeze tickles the leaves,

and catches her hair before it leaves.

Samuel would be visiting today.

Samuel Baker, do you say?

Yes tis he. Its like I could see him again,

his crystal blue eyes glistening in the rain.

As raindrops slide down his ruffled hair,

and reach his cherry lips that swear,

I promise to meet your beloved brother,

and confess the subject to our hearts so dear.

I\'ll be there love, don\'t you fear,

On the 30 th of this September!

Her brown eyes lighten,

and her smile brightens.

I\'ll lay out the table,

Call me if it\'s Samuel.

He shakes his head with a heavy sigh,

and goes back to reading ,\"The wonder of lies\".

Her ears flush and perks up,

her heart\'s beating fast, lub dub.

Brother, dost thou hear?

Is it a carriage drawing near?

No, my dear, replied her brother,

Not a thing I hear.

Brother, ready is the tea,

He gets up and looks at her inquiringly.

Won\'t you join me dear?

Oh, don\'t you worry about me.

I am waiting for he.

She sits on the porch

eyes fixed on the road,

relentless and unblinking with hope.

What? But how could he ?

It\'s been more than a year,

He has departed, you\'ve got to move on dear!

She continues to watch the road

Unaffected and unfazed by his words.

As his face fills with guilt,

which a crime of past has built,

his lips move in a whisper,

Forgive me, my dear sister.
