My July

By Christina Mills

I don’t like the month of July, and let me tell you why.

It’s always the hottest month of the year, and the month my Mother died.

It’s also the month life changed for me, that I couldn’t ever see,

That turned my world so upside down, like swimming in a rough dark sea.

The bills stack up this time of year, and I get a bit stressed out,

But then remember my Lord above and know it all works out.

But you know I’m only human so those thoughts creep in and out.

As I remember days gone by playing in the sand, I wish I liked July much better,

But I don’t really think I can.

So thank you, thank you, thank you, as I hear Bernice’s song,

It’s all about you know who, and how we get along.

I want to change the name July to maybe, Yes I Can,

So when the month of July sneaks in, I know there’s a better plan.

Now if you’re thinking July’s real bad, just keep on listening on,

Because my August is just as bad, even sadder, than yours probably ever was.
