Winter Loneliness
Amid the snow banks of despair
and the slush of fallen tears
a heart is cast away, frozen
unable to beat
ice-capped by rejection.
It was a sad and lonely cold spell
that caused the temperature to fall
to turn the hot summer of attraction
into autumn’s change of color
and winter’s loneliness.
A heart, warm and rhythmic and fondly given
drenched in love and passion
inflamed through summer’s heat
yet was destined to die
from its own infection.
Too hot to be handled, it was set aside to cool.
Forgotten, it became encased in ice
and blocked by friendship, it froze.
As Nature will in time
it renewed a balance of warmth.
The heart thawed and began to function.
One day, it started beating rapidly
from the sense of another becoming unfrozen
and to which it grew attached.
