Happy Together

Last night, through the magic of music

I traveled back in time

To the 1960”s, to my high school days

Dating, dances, the sweet exhilaration of youth

Last night I attended the “Happy Together” concert

That has been touring for years

Bringing back wonderful memories for millions

Last night is was artists of the 60’s

And I was truly in heaven again

Music was such a big part of my adolescence

And there they were

Live, on stage, singing, dancing,

Playing with such exuberance

The Cowsills

The Vogues

The Buckinghams

The Association

The Turtles

Gary Puckett & the Union Gap

I was in the front row, 8 speakers blaring in my face

Clapping, singing, ‘til I was hoarse, dancing in the seat

Song lyrics in my head that I’d never forgotten

And just like me, the arena was filled with boomers

We had all grown old together

But the music was as young and fresh as the day it was born

And those who created it

May be in their 70’s now, gray hair, glasses, wrinkles

But the voices are strong and the energy infectious

Each group may be a member or two light

A reminder that nothing goes on forever

But those who remain will never be diminished

For almost 3 hours the world, with all its troubles

Did not exist, and I was that teenager

With all of life’s possibilities before me

Then the finale, the cheering, whistles, bows

And it was all over, time to go home

But the feeling stayed with me

Like the mist of a dream that lingers upon waking

It’s true, Old Rockers never die

They just keep touring

They’re there to remind us of who we were

And still are inside

Thank God!
