A Better War

It’s the war of the words of the world.

A culture marked by polarization and separation.

Everyone wants to be better than someone else.

Every side wants to come out victorious, no matter the cost.

Gloves are off and the rules are up for interpretation.

We don’t have time for your scientific substantiation.

A legitimate victory or an easy win,

A fair fight, or an unlosable fight?

Tell me, which one is better?

This is war.

If the pen is mightier than the sword,

I wonder how a keyboard stacks up against an AR-15.

One must be better than the other,

But tell me, which one is better?

What makes me better than you?  Or you better than I?

Well, I’m a ginger, so my soul can’t be bought or sold.

So I guess that’s a win, depending on who you ask.

I almost fell in love on National Kick a Ginger Day.

But she turned out to be a dude with a wig,

Being patronized or being abused for the way you look,

Tell me, which one is better?

In all of our intellect and advancement,

You’d think we’d find a better war to fight.

But here we are, fighting the good fight against ourselves.
