Light the Way

I always noticed
How she’d open up
The blinds at sunrise
And marvel at the
Light, the way
It would fill
The empty room
(In a heart)

Since she passed,
I try to carry on.
Her tradition of looking up
At morning’s first
Light, the way
It filters in
Through the cracks of
Windows and souls

I’ve spent time observing
Light, the way
It shape-shifts in a home
Throughout the day,
And how shadows
Pass through like visitors—
No one stays
Forever

But there’s something
In the love of a mother
(For which
There’s no match on earth)
That will light the way
Forever
