“We did it!” I exclaim
Another mountain to my name
I feel proud of it, but soon as we’re down, I search for what next to take aim
It’s never ending, find something more challenging than the last every time
Take advantage of my physical prime
And always look for the next climb
I did the research and made a list of goals for the upcoming year
I’ll train hard and organize my gear
Before looking for the next objectives as I enjoy a post-summit beer
I’m planning climbs I never thought I’d be capable of just a year ago
I can now climb ice when I used to feel awkward walking through the snow
Twice as fast as I used to be, but still too slow!
Smile as I scroll through climb photos from just a few months before
I suddenly feel shocked that I so desperately feel the need for more
I should be more proud right now, I have accomplishments galore!
No crime is committed in always striving to grow
On the journey, always be present, look back, be proud of where you are and the steps on the way, though
Lest it never be fulfilling, never be enough and you never see how high you’ve already climbed above the low
