There he came into the house,
The first thing he showed us
Was the watch,
Of which he was so proud.
My son and his partner
Had started kayaking,
And he needed a watch
That could survive in the wet,
So here it was.
It goes down to the depths,
It told when the tides were rising,
Or receding,
It could even tell the time!
We were sitting chatting
And he needed to know the time.
So there it is,
His new watch on his wrist,
Ready and waiting for him,
And what does he do?
He looks at his ‘phone!
I just laughed and laughed.
“What are you laughing at?
My son said.
So I asked him
“Why do you have a watch,
Of which you are so proud;
But tell the time on you ‘phone?”
He looked at me dumbfounded,
And he too burst out laughing.
