What a lonely life to out-live time,
A painful life that starts like a rhyme
To watch the world as it\'s set ablaze,
You\'d lose yourself among the haze
Like blinking fireflies kept in a jar,
Like untuned strings on a broken guitar
You\'d know all there is to know,
All the forgiven secrets left to sow
But you wouldn\'t have any human left,
Numbed by pain that\'s left you bereft
Maybe you\'d finally feel alive,
Knowing where you\'d never arrive
There you\'d be, standing among the stars,
You wouldn\'t know how you got this far
The only sound you\'d ever hear,
Is your infinite heartbeat ever so clear
Wouldn\'t it just kill you inside?
Never reaching the place where most reside?
Your flesh would be a holding cell,
Immortality: the forever living hell
With your aching imprisoned soul,
You\'d say: \"I can never die\"
When you know you had long ago
And you\'d remember a life you never had,
Your days would be a story with infinity to add
You\'d plunge a knife into you soul,
You\'d try to kill it with all your control,
Yet no matter how much blood would flow,
Heaven would be above and you\'d be below
And no matter how beautiful wisdom might seem,
Surely this path is a madman\'s dream.
