I close my eyes and take a walk through our memories
Because that’s the only place I can run into you.
I visit your laugh, your warmth, your curly brown hair
as my mind wanders down lanes filled with small moments
of you.
And then I wake up and walk forward, forging a path that
will never know your laugh, your warmth, your curly brown hair;
Every new memory I make
doesn’t have you.
So I close my eyes again and
return to past scenes
on roads that I’ve already traveled;
Sometimes picking a different fork in the road to pretend
what could have been, what should have been.
Making new memories with you.
