Head to toe in PPE I walk towards the door
Already drenched in sweat and fear and wondering “what am I doing here?”
Every breathe the threat returns but I can’t turn to flee
Ahead the unseen faces swarm the windows to the soul forlorn and even these are screened from all humanity to me
A name scrawled quickly on a gown bends over those who slowly drown
Alarms scream warnings all around and death is in the ether now
So we fight to save the crowd of tortured souls that now abound
As yet another death knell sounds fragmented hope now also drowns
