The crowd didn\'t care
They only wanted to
Have a festive and merry time
They wanted the young politician
To finish his words
So they could be free
To eat, drink, dance,
Laugh and maybe fight
He that spoke
Was not appreciated or understood
The speech that he
Had diligently crafted and practiced
Was only noise to
Those in front of him
He didn\'t really understand
And didn\'t realize the
Truth of the situation
When he finished
They applauded and shouted
More for what was coming
Than for what they had heard
They were being themselves
And were not guilty
Of anything beyond ignorance
The man who turned water into wine
Also advised us
Not to cast our pearls before swine
The teacher lectured
And maybe a few
Students learned something
What she had studied
And thought about
She sincerely wanted
To explain and pass on
The class mostly had
Other things on their minds
And were maybe even
Embarassed by their lack
Of understanding
She could not teach
Which was not her fault
Some wanted to learn
And were intrigued by
Her words
But they were few
Most were ready
For the bell to ring
And for the school day to end
The man who turned
Water into wine
Also advised us
Not to cast our pearls before swine
The young man
Who fancied himself a poet
Also cavorted and drank
With an untutored bunch
AS he drank
He would lose inhibitions
And try to speak eloquently
And to recite and quote
That which he had read and heard
That had impressed him so much
The others tolerated him
But considered him
Not to be entirely sane
And they would finally get enough
And tell him to stop and be quiet
Then he would try
To appease them
By changing to vulgar poems
And limericks
Of which he knew many
Then he would be silent
And drink more
Until nothing mattered
And would be lost
And absorbed in his own mind
The man who turned water into wine
Also advised us
Not to cast our pearls before swine
