Leftovers - Daisie-Lyn Fuller

‘I ordered takeout’, my favourite phrase
Food was the key to my heart,
The way me and him really connected through fast food.
Indulging ourselves in countless pizzas on a Friday,
Treating us to a Chinese on a Tuesday.
‘Are you really going to eat all that?’, the phrase that changed me.
I stopped mid-slice, ran off in a huff,
At least he had leftovers for the next day.

‘I ordered takeout’, my nemesis approaching – food.
The greasy, over-oiled stench intoxicated the room.
It’s insane how we allow ourselves to fuel our bodies with junk,
Absurd amounts of calories consumed in one single bite.
He has plenty leftovers for tomorrow, I refuse to touch the stuff.
