I fall asleep trying to express myself-
Exhaustion from the sadness sinking in.
But, I’m awoken by words I left unspoken,
So I stay whispering hymns to the dead.
I’m paralyzed–like the legs that betrayed you,
My face soggy like your hospital sheets-
From the salt raining down my face-
And when it comes, it won’t stop.
But, holding in sadness twists me in a knot.
So, my shoulders jerk in these quiet hours,
Until the sunrise skies fill my eyes,
But, I’m so unmoved by the moving sky.
For I have seen three women,
Hugging and crying before his coffin,
Bearing the weight of the world,
And nothing again will move me.
