The old woman smiled
Twinkled blue eyes
Of a distant yesterday
A thousand dreams
Which slipped away
Into the oblivion of old age
To become a yellow faded page
Deep in her memory.
Her wrinkled face it creased
As if to welcome peace
Of a sort which begged to say
During the passing
Of another lonely day
I will always walk beside
Dry those beautiful eyes
I will always love you.
Back inside her home she cried
Wept until the tears died
Until no more sadness could be gathered
Then his photograph
With love she smothered
She kissed the torn but once strong face
Of a husband who had always stayed
So very very close.
Hours passed night it fell
Dark and dismal a lonely hell
Into which she wept some more
Dressed for bed and locked the door
As she slept she dreamed of him
That he had come and took her hand
Led her to his masters land
She now sleeps peaceful.
