Lament of a Cricket Widow

The day I vowed to honour and obey

I was unaware of the price I\'d pay

The truth dawned slowly that the foe I fought

was not other women but obsession with sport

From Monday to Friday I accepted my lot

hoping the weekend would shine sunny and hot

Imagine my distress when my hero vanished

to a world of his own from which I was banished

At first I insisted on going along

but five hours of cricket, proved five hours too long

Now I sit and wait for the man in my life

to return two hours late to his frustrated wife

Flushed with victory and beer, he relives every moment

proud of the way they \'stuffed\' the opponent

Sunday should then be a day spent together

a time for outings, enjoying fine weather

Sadly exhaustion and another hangover

means Sundays are spent sleep on the sofa

So as Saturday looms and it\'s cricket again

my only hope is to pray for rain.
