I Am Unique

I learned today what I never knew:
I am unique, just like you.
I\'m one of a kind on the face of the earth.
My uniqueness began on the day of my birth,
and no matter how much I complain or try,
I\'ll be this way \'til the day I die.
Maybe longer.

My thumb print belongs only to me.
Uniqueness determines how I see.
Nobody else can claim to be
exactly, precisely, unequivocally me.
I told my wife all this interesting stuff
and she replied: \"One\'s probably enough.\"

So, if I am unique and you are, too,
my life-long dream will never come true.
I\'ve always wanted to be like you:
composed, serene, red-white-and blue.
You\'re the kind of person I\'d like to be
but I guess what you get is what you see:
the uniquely, ordinary, common me.

Get ready, St. Peter, I\'ve a question or two
before I decide if I\'m going to step through
the doorway marked \"Eternal Life.\"
I\'m asking this on behalf of my wife.
Am I forever just what you see,
any chance there might be another me?
Is my uniqueness a blessing or is it a curse?
Could I be different; better or worse?
Ok, I got it!  I understand.
I am forever this unique man.
I think I\'ll wait before breaking the news.
She might decide she\'s nothing to lose.

It\'s not easy being unique like me.
And since you are, too, don\'t you agree?
