Tune: Bread of heaven
(\'Bread of heaven, on thee we feed\')
Psalm 39 part
********
I said, I will to my ways
Take heed unto, all my days
That I sin not, so I dumb
Was, and silent, answered none
But I was sad, heart was hot
I did meditate my lot
While I did muse the fire burned
Within me, to words I turned
Then I did speak, said, Lord make
Me my days know, for your sake
Make me to know what my end
Is, measure of days you send
For you do send all my days
Man to you watches and prays
So make me to know how frail
My days are, a handbreadth tale
My age as nothing \'fore* you (*before)
Man does vanity renew
Small and feeble as compared
To you, by grace I have fared
Man\'s life like shadow, passing
Yet he does you praise and sing
Gathers riches, vanity
Knows not what the future be
My hope Lord is all in you
Forgive me, to me good do
When you do come to correct
Even your chosen elect
There man\'s beauty is consumed
\'Tis vain, it for moth is groomed
Hear my prayer, Lord, hear my cry
See my tears, I to you fly
Spare me, this life give me strength
\'Til I then depart at length
Living for you, life\'s brief span
That you allot to each man
