Time Always Runs Out
Anybody with a heart knew this time it would be forever.
Every hour of every day their love would know the way.
Once, sitting on a park bench there was a man, young of age
wearing worn out clothing and reading yesterday’s front page.
It was late in July, hot as hell, for it was mid-summer
and the world had no place for an off-beat drummer.
If he were to write a song every line would be about her
or maybe it would tell a tale that would excite her.
In the shadows of her eyes, he saw the echoes of his mind:
“I’ll spend each night beside you
thoughtful of what we’ve sworn.
Forgive me for wanting you so
I’ve loved you since time itself was born.
I\'ve traveled blind to your lonely tower
and dropped like a stone beneath your power.
My heart became yours when I kissed you
that soft summer’s night in Tuvalu.
The night I cried for someone, I was broken hearted
and the sweetest girl sent a rose to my heart.
Nothing left of me, so the teardrops started. \"
We’ll live longer remembering our lovin’
than we will swimming across an ocean.
She led him to the harbor; it did not matter what he’d done.
She let him hold her precious body as she told him she’d return.
He could sing his song forever
he was so glad that he had found her...
She said, “Put your loving arms around me. It’s time to bid farewell.
Goodbye my love.”
What good are love’s phrases? Time always runs out.
