No hero I know has ever worn a cape. To me a hero is someone who touches another’s life and is forever changed: A Father standing by his daughter even when times are tough; teaching her the definition of a man’s unconditional love. A brother defending his sister when she is being bullied; teaching her that he’s got her back; that’s how it should be. A son taking care of his mom as she gets old and weak; caring hands, unspoken love, in his arms comes peace. A teacher who believes in the student who finds it hard to believe in his or herself; this teacher goes to the ends of the earth so this student doesn’t give up. A Nurse who’s caring heart and listening ears makes the world a difference in trying times. Showing compassion and patience no matter what is on their mind. A firefighter; walking into the fires to save lives. Not knowing if they themselves will make it out alive. A police officer saving a child from an abusive home. Making sure he/she knows they are never alone. A single mom working three jobs to survive. Getting her kids to school, facing the challenges of life. Our soldiers; those who see what we never see; all of the above is the definition of HERO to me.
