Retirement blues

Depression, dementia and a cranky retired knit-picking wife

I wolf down a few melatonin gummies to get me mellowed off to sleep

So I can get back to the next day of my 70-something life.

35 years of working in a lumber re-man shop

Working with a bunch of tatooed bubbas

Yet I felt blessed and okay in this locally-family owned buisiness (sho-nuff.)

The wife STILL goes into control freak knit-picking neo-nazi interrogation mode

When I ask her a simple question in my five member family abode.

I was hoping to go back to the places like we did back in the day.

Like Mackinaw City, Mackinac Island, St. Ignace, the Mighty Mac Bridge and the Wisconsin northwoods.

I was hoping to see my sons marry-up with a pretty, sweet Catholic girl

And make me a loving grandpa.

Instead I\'m stuck at the house seemingly all-day long during boredom surreal.

So here I am in my room late at night

Tossing and turning to to try to get to sleep.

Finally and eventually yawning while the mrs is already asleep.

My doctor tells me I have mild to medium dementia

But my better half yells at me, claiming it is getting worse

As if she is a ranting/raging Bill O\'Reilly wannabe....(or something like that)

I\'m only pushing seventy (NOT ninety)

As I pray my rosary ...sometimes several times daily

For her and my sons to return to the faith

And to be just a normal successful Catholic family.

(feeling sad and lonely while continually knit-picked in my own house!)
