Proverb Pieces 2

Tune: St Botolph

(\'I come with joy to meet my Lord\')

Proverbs 22 v.1-6

*****************

A good name is rather to be

Chosen than much wealth, see

And loving favour rather than

Silver and gold of man

The rich and poor meet together

Each sister and brother

The Lord the maker of them all

Each one may on Him call

Prudent ones foresee the evil

Not caught up in it all

Those naive it not avoid

They of wisdom devoid

By humility and the fear

Of the Lord, reverence dear

Are riches and honour and life

Such be at peace, no strife

Thorns, snares are in way of froward*

Troubles they have incurred

But they that keep their soul shall be

Far from them and be free

Train up a child in the way they

Should go, so in their days

Of life\'s fullness, they not depart

From it, but stay, whole-heart

-----

* froward - difficult to deal with; contrary.
