Daddy Issues

We\'re cut from the same cloth, you and I.
Stubborn and fierce, brave and bold.
We\'re cut from the same cloth, you and I,
And that happens to be my one of my worst fears.

They say, \'daddy issues\' and laugh it off like a joke,
As if every problem I have doesn\'t jab and poke.
As if you haven\'t ruined me with your incapabilities,
Like you haven\'t absolutely destroyed me.

I scream and shout but you ignore it,
Apparently, dad, that\'s all you can do.
You can\'t be my parent, a guide or a loving hand,
All you can do is be angry and super mad.

My entire childhood, you were my favorite.
I gave you my heart, expecting you to cradle it in your arms.
But you? You dropped it and let it shatter to pieces,
And for that alone, I hate you to the moon and back.

You left my younger self longing for love.
For the sliver of affection that you couldn\'t muster.
You left me with an emptiness inside me,
But you? You are whole and happy, so you don\'t care.

You never physically abused me, so I guess I\'m supposed to be grateful.
But what the hell am I supposed to do with the rage that runs in my veins?
I have your DNA, father, whether or not I want it,
So your bad traits and selfishness? I guess I inherited them all.

The sins of the father are to be laid upon the children, right?
Is that why I cry all night while you sleep soundly?
If I could drain every last drop of my blood, I would,
Just so we wouldn\'t be related.

I do have daddy issues, but it\'s your fault, daddy dearest.
You could\'ve been kinder, less defensive.
You could\'ve loved my mother, taught me good life lessons.
But the only one you taught me? Don\'t be you.
