The Pain We Hold - Free Verse

It’s not if, it’s when.
It’s not how, it’s why.
Emotions and struggles,
get locked up inside.

They try to break out,
we tell lie after lie
Suffocating, trying to swim up,
tears in our eyes.

They can’t hold us down,
not forever.
Will they break me?
No, not ever.

I’m cracking,
I’m breaking to pieces.
I’m falling,
My momentum decreases.

A hand reaches out,
And catches me.
I am not a prisoner,
but I am not free.

Healing, a journey,
more painful than the wound,
Like a tree shedding leaves,
feeling bare and marooned.

The scars are hidden,
But they tell a tale,
Of battles fought,
And times we\'ve failed.

We rise, we fall,
We break, we mend,
In the end, it\'s not just about,
How things end.

For every wound will heal,
And every scar will fade,
Remember, after every sunset,
Comes a new day.
