The Plunge

Light blooms deep in my chest

The rain trickles down my arms

As the colored light hits my eyes

I smile, teeth peaking out of their cave

The breeze lifts my hair into it’s tendrils

The locks blow around my eyes and nose

I look out into the world, love blossoming

I take a step forward and then another

But the third step is off, doesn’t feel right

Fear wraps it’s icy talons around my heart

I plunge into those depths yet again

The ones that have drowned me before

Yet I welcome them as the water rushes

My eyelids flutter as they slowly close

My body was as tense as a rubber band before

But the tension leaks out and into the dark abyss

The light seeps out of my pores until it’s gone

Leaving me empty, just as I was not long ago

And just as soon as it dragged me under

It makes me float upwards to the surface again

Again.

And again.
