There we were on the lawn
On this cool grey day
Playing the game we loved,
Knocking those balls
Towards and through the hoops.
Two ladies came to the next lawn,
They stood at the starting point,
The starting point on the lawn,
And they talked,
Talked and talked for almost half an hour.
And in that time we had nearly finished,
Nearly finished our first game.
If my friends and I wanted to talk
We would be in a coffee bar,
Or even better in a pub,
But the game of croquet is so important
So important to us
That we get on the lawn and play,
Play the game we love.
