Accidental Poet

The Non-existent Writing Switch

In trying to write poetry

I believe anyone can

But it comes in small bits

Once the endeavor began

First, you’ll read the poetry

Of other poet’s works

Picking up bits and pieces

Styles from the poetry stork

My inner muse likes to rhyme

But yours may not

You’ll know when your muse speaks

The result will be what you got

By now you’re hooked

You can’t stop thinking

About what to write

To satisfy that red light blinking

Write of this

And write of that

Why the ball is round

And the page is flat

Then out of the blue

You can’t write a word

Like the switch is turned off

Suddenly so absurd

Yes, it may come and go

But it’s not like an on/off switch

It’s more of an internal voice

Causing your writing hand to twitch

Quick, write it down

While it’s still there

Wait too long

And find it nowhere

But stay with it

Write often, write deep

Write of daily events

And of emotions you keep

Now, while you were so busy

You’ve become a poet

So don’t be afraid to share

Go to My Poetic Side and show it
