Art’s Value

There are artworks sold for umpteen millions,

Accumulated excess in private hands;

Created by artists who had visions

Or perhaps the result of patron’s commands.

So who or what has the wherewithal

To pay this for paint on a square canvas

When many today live with S F all?

Just a different world to the rest of us.

Forgers are anonymous in their guises

Some bottom feeders for the tourist crowd.

As art buyers too come in many shapes and sizes:

Some connoisseurs with extreme wealth endowed.

The efforts many forgers have gone to

Ensures their work has authenticity

And success (ask van Meegeren, please do).

Research underwrites their duplicity.

Part of what should be a worldwide movement

To level an unequal society,

Forgers by example provide judgement

On those the rich who never achieve satiety.
