Winter Haunts

Winter Haunts

Another winter
All alone,
But shackled to
You.

Warmth becomes a fairytale;
All the mirrors
In the starving rooms
Of this house
Shed layers of my reflection
With each waning
Blink of sun.

Anemic air
leaks from drafty rafters
And stirs the leftovers
Of voices
Long expired.

Get out of my head
(Please, don’t leave).
Your echoes are viral,
A plague that devours;
Yet, I pursue the kiss of
Black Death
Only to let the stab of
THAT
Memory destroy me again.

I watch you die every day;
Every day,
I die too,
But heaven has left me to haunt;
I do not know
Which of us
Is the ghost.
