Your Love Smells Like Lilies

I remember when we met, in the community garden.

You looked ethereal with your dirt-stained face.

You spoke and your voice sounded like rose petals.

Your eyes were such a beautiful blue that they made the sky itself jealous.

I tripped and stumbled on my words; it made you laugh.

Your laugh sounded like wind chimes.

When I fell in love with you, it felt as though the world stopped spinning.

As though time itself waited for us, if only for a moment.

I gave you my love, I gave you my time, I gave you my life.

You accepted it with greed disguised as gratitude.

You planted lilies in my heart and watered them with cyanide.

And once every part of me was poisoned, you couldn’t bear to look me in the eye.

You left without a word, not even a goodbye.

You left me shattered, and after three years, I\'m still picking up the pieces.

But every time I try to put myself back together, the glass-like pieces of my heart cut

my broken hands and leave me more shattered than before.

Your love smells like lilies, gorgeous and graceful.

But it’s poisonous, even deadly if you’re not careful.
