The circus came to town,
a lot of us skipped school
to watch the part called
\"The Dark Victorian Freak Show
as we sat together in the Horror Chateau.
It was dark and scary as we watched
strange-looking creatures appear and
sit on wobbly seats that barely held them,
each one was unique with costumes of old,
adding to their countenance of surreal mold.
A deep voice spoke up and said with determination
they were recruiting for more freaks for their show,
a guaranteed income all paid in gold coins,
three meals served daily plus an annual vacation,
a resort built underground full of damnation.
Our bodies shook in unison as we heard the request,
we took a chance playing hooky from school,
this is not what we expected to hear from the circus,
we all stood up in a row as we ran to the closest door,
outside was the smiling truant officer keeping score.
